Saturday June-30
I'm up with the crack of dawn this morning in order to catch the 08:00am ferry across the St Lawrence from Rivière-du-Loup to the north shore-based township of Saint-Siméon. I line up awaiting embarkation behind the inevitable line of Harley Davidsons.
Just the one other Honda - immediately to my left - a 1979 Golding 1000, with a full-fairing kit. The rest are Harleys.
The plan is to head west keeping alongside, as far as possible, the shoreline; ride straight through Québec City; and then afterwards make my way towards the northwest area of Montréal - to the small town/village of Saint Canut, where I have plans to stay with a couple of friends who I met, under quite bizarre circumstances, down under, in New Zealand on Friday, March 23.
300 miles (483 km) later, I pull into the gravel lane that leads to Sven & Amilie's riverside house. Within a couple of hundred metres from the #158 main road, right outside their neighbour's house, Sven halts my slow and focused progress [- 'tis another gravel surface ... see .. :o( ]
"Howzit goin' dude? - Ya made it then. Come-on in, make yerself at home, and grab yerself a beer" ... was the laid-back greeting
Quite clearly, I had indeed arrived and Sven's hangout - that's for sure!
Around a kilometre further down the gravel and sand covered lane, a beer or two and 30 minutes later, we finally get to my hosts home proper. An old wooden house, with dry-lined interior walls, and everything else that can only go to make it Sven & Amelie's unique home ...
Right by a pike-filled river ... It's idyllic ...
.. Paradise, in fact
Young Amelie ...
... and Sven .. the Top-Bloke
Around 90 minutes later, another couple arrive from Toronto - Drew [Andrew] & Henry [Henrica] .... on .. guess wot? ... A HARLEY !!
The proceedings begin!
More beers, more wine; laced with some intelligent conversation and lots of leg-pulling (all drifting slowly into an alcoholic haze .. :o) - with GREAT company. Who could ask for more?
At dusk Sven fires-up the barbeque ...
.. and I enjoy some of THE best BBQ'd food I've ever, ever had.
The rest of the night remains a complete blurr to me ... hic!
